The Orangewood Academy is a residential/educational facility that provides a safe environment for foster kids. Since foster kids get relocated a lot, they never feel they own a place, or something belongs to them, or they belong to a community or a place. The goal of this project is to create a place for them to CALL HOME...

The design is based on multiple interior and exterior courtyard systems to encourage foster kids to communicate, share their stories, and feel like they’re part of a bigger family.

A combination of different lighting, heating and cooling strategies are used to create a welcoming Net-Zero building: Sky-domes, deep light shelves, tinted glass and shading devices.
